Gerry Lougheed Jr. was presented with a fellowship by the Canadian Finnish Institute at Huntington University Nov. 13.

He received the honour in recognition of his outstanding and long-serving commitment to the community, in particular, his leadership and fundraising efforts to support Finlandia Village and the Finnish community in Greater Sudbury.

In 2013, Lougheed was awarded the Order of the Lion of Finland in recognition of his fundraising leadership to support the expansion of Sudbury’s Finnish Rest Home.

The SISU Campaign raised $3.6 million for capital construction of the Lepokoti block and Finlandia Village, which included assisted living facilities, a new wellness centre and the Voima Hall.

Lougheed is also an honorary Life Member of Finlandia Village, founding chair of the SISU Foundation, and hosts an annual President’s Dinner to raise funds in support of Finlandia Village.
