Hart Stores Inc, an operator of mid-sized department stores, reported net earnings of $2.1 million for the third quarter ended Oct. 29, compared with $1.4 million for the same period in the previous year, an increase of 44.9 percent. Total revenues for the period increased by 15.7 percent for the same period last year.
Hart opened eight new stores this year including ones in Espanola, Hanmer and downtown Sudbury. The store in the Rainbow Centre was damaged by smoke following a fire. It is not expected to reopen before Christmas.
