Greater Sudbury Police report that a workplace death occurred in Levack on Friday

Death was reported to have occurred in a salt and sand yard on Municipal Road 8

Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) said it is investigating a workplace death in the city.

GSPS said it responded Friday at about 2:50 p.m. to a winter salt and sand yard located on Municipal Road 8 in Levack, where it was discovered that a 40-year-old man was dead.

The police news release did not reveal whether the person was an employee at the salt and sand yard or any of the circumstances relating to the individuals death. Police did not reveal the name of the employer. No information was reported on what the person was doing at the time, whether he was alone or with others.

Police said the death is being investigated by the GSPS Criminal Investigation division, along with the Coroner's Office and the Ontario Ministry of Labour.  Police said this is a standard procedure following a death in the workplace.

GSPS said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Police said that out of respect for the family, the name of the deceased person will not be released at this time.

In Ontario when a worker dies at the workplace, a coroner's inquest is mandatory.
