Greater Sudbury Police Service add new charges against city man charged with child exploitation offences

Sudbury man charged with forcible confinement, sexual assault on a child, and several other offences

UPDATE: On August 24, the Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) The Computer Forensics Units of the Greater Sudbury Police executed a search warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury with the assistance of Emergency Response and Intelligence Units. Police filed several charges in relation to an investigation, initiated in May, into child exploitation material being made available online by a local resident.

On Tuesday, GSPS said as the result of continuing their investigation, several more charges have been filed against the individual

As a result of continued work of the I.C.E. Unit, detectives filed charges for the following offences:

• Sexual Interference x3

• Sexual Assault (child) x3

• Sexual Assault (adult)

• Invitation to Sexual Touching x2

• Sexual Exploitation

• Sexual Exploitation x2

• Forcible Confinement

Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation and in order to protect the identities of the survivors no further information can be provided as a Publication Ban has been issued by the Justice of the Peace.

Investigators believe that there may be additional survivors. Members of the community who have information relating to this investigation are asked to contact Detective Constable Kerr at 705-675-9171 extension 4751.

On August 24, the Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) Unit and Computer Forensics Units of the Greater Sudbury Police executed a search warrant at a residence in Greater Sudbury with the assistance of Emergency Response and Intelligence Units. The charges are in relation to an investigation, initiated in May, into child exploitation material being made available online by a local resident.

Following the execution of the Search Warrant, a 43 year-old Greater Sudbury resident was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Access Child Pornography x3

Possess Child Pornography x3

Make Child Pornography Available x3

Assault Police with the Intent to Resist Arrest x2

Obstruct Police

Possession of a Prohibited Device x2

The accused will appear in Bail Court on August 25, 2021 to answer to the charges.The Greater Sudbury Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit is part of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.  This has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
