The province enacted its vaccine mandate as of Wednesday, Sept. 22, with proof of vaccine now required at various locations.

The City of Greater Sudbury falls under these regulations, a media release clarified, noting that anyone entering an indoor recreation facility is now required to provide proof of vaccination.

This can come in the form of a vaccination receipt or medical exemption along with proof of identification. Vaccination receipts may be shown electronically or in hard copy and must be shown at every visit and is required from everyone aged 18 and older.

Minors aged 12 to 17 are allowed to enter indoor sports and recreation facilities without proof of vaccination, but only for participating in an organized sport.

Those aged 12 to 17 attending facilities as spectators or participating in weight room activities are required to show proof of vaccination and a government-issued ID, as are those who are not involved in organized sports.

The current definition of organized sport does not include public skating, parents and tots skating, adult skating, family swim, lane swim or public swim.

Affected municipal facilities include pools, arenas, fitness centres and community halls.

Under the province’s rules, proof of being fully vaccinated is not required for coaches, officials and volunteers actively participating with organized youth sports.

The Government of Ontario is currently working on a QR code scanning process, which will be available beginning Oct. 22, which city staff are preparing to use as soon as possible.

Those required to show proof of vaccination who do not have it will be unable to enter the facility, aside from those exempt, including workers, contractors, repair workers, delivery workers, students, volunteers, inspectors or others who are entering the facility for work purposes and not as patrons.

Patrons may enter an indoor area without proof of vaccination for various reasons, including using a washroom, placing or picking up an order, purchasing admission and making a retail purchase.
