The Canadian Association of Retired persons (cARP) Sudbury celebrates National Seniors Day on Wednesday Oct. 1 by holding a raising a flag at Tom Davies Square at 2:30 p.m.

All interested citizens are invited to attend the ceremony which will be attended by Mayor Marianne Matichuk and several special guests who will comment on the occasion. Peter Williams will be the MC for the event, which will take place in the foyer of TD square.

CARP Sudbury, representing older adults throughout the area, said in a news release it is proud to pay tribute to seniors on this day, and thank them for the valuable contributions they have made, and continue to make, in our families, workplaces, and communities.

“National Seniors Day is an occasion for people in Greater Sudbury and across Canada to join together as a nation to honour and celebrate this country’s seniors, and as we have a higher percentage of seniors in our city compared to the Ontario average this is of particular importance,” said Hugh Kruzel, chair of CARP Sudbury.

National Seniors Day, which coincides with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons, is an occasion for Canadians to celebrate and appreciate seniors.
