Greater Sudbury under severe thunderstorm watch

Expected late this afternoon and early evening, a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Greater Sudbury. 

Other Northern communities including Elliot Lake-Ranger Lake, Temiskaming Shores - Temagami, North Bay - West Nipissing and Manitoulin - Blind River - Killarney are covered under the weather watch. 

Environment Canada is warning that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing toonie size-hail and rainfall up to 50 mm within an hour.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
