Sudbury's Stack Brewing celebrated their two year anniversary on June 27 with a parking lot party.

Games, music by The Mondo Idols, food, and of course, beer, were all on the menu for the day-long party that introduced a very limited time batch of Stack's latest creation “Trademark Infringement”.

The brew is a tart wheat beer that owner Shawn Mailloux describes as, “a great summertime beer”.

Mailloux followed suit from the one year anniversary a year ago, when their anniversary party beer was “Growing Pains”.

“In our first year there were a lot of growing pains (with the company),” said Mailloux. “This year we ran into some trademark issues with Moosehead because we had a beer named Angry Moose and they had the rights to the moose name.”

That beer is now under the moniker Stack '72, an imperial IPA that weighs in at nine per cent alcohol and is the strongest in Stack's seven beer lineup.

Stack has their beers in more than 40 different establishments in and around northern Ontario, and are always looking to expand.

“Year two was good for us, we picked up more accounts, we've got larger equipment so we can brew more,” said Mailloux.

“We've expanded into more locations in North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie and we've also picked up some distribution in Toronto, and our Saturday Night ale is in being sold in the LCBO.”

Unfortunately for fans of Stack Brewing, Trademark Infringement was available for one day only, during the party.

“We make one batch of it for the party and once it's gone, it's gone,” said Mailloux.

Year three will be one of further exploration into different markets and different brews for Stack, says Mailloux.

“Craft beer drinkers love variety,” said Mailloux. “We're always doing different things and tinkering with new recipes.”
