Health unit has expanded homeless shelter outbreaks to include three other locations

Outbreak was originally declared March 16 at Salvation Army Cedar Place shelter and the YMCA warming centre; Samaritan Centre, YMCA and the Homelessness Network Day Centre are all impacted

Public Health Sudbury & Districts has expanded the outbreaks declared at two downtown warming centres to include three other locations.

The outbreaks at the Salvation Army’s Cedar Place shelter and the YMCA warming centre were declared March 16

This evening, Public Health said there is a potential for high-risk exposure to COVID-19 for anyone who attended the Samaritan Centre Resource Program (344 Elgin St.), the YMCA (140 Durham St.) and the Homelessness Network Day Centre (199 Larch St.), on March 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27.

PHSD has said anyone who attended these facilities should:

“Public Health is also working closely with partners to provide asymptotic testing to clients. More details will be communicated directly to clients, through those agencies,” the health unit said. “Public Health is working with the service operators to determine if individuals can be contacted directly. However, Public Health might not have information to contact everyone who may have been exposed. 

“The protection of our most vulnerable populations and health care system is of the utmost importance. Everyone is urged to continue following public health measures to protect others and stop the spread of COVID-19.”
