A hot and humid airmass will be in place over Greater Sudbury for the next few days, bring the city its first stretch of very hot weather this weekend.
Daytime highs are expected to reach to near 30 degrees today and quite likely again Sunday.

“In addition, overnight lows will only fall to the 16- to 20-degree mark, thus providing little relief from the hot weather,” a release from the Weather Network said.

Residents should watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include: dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting, headache, rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

“If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids,” the release said. “Water is best. Drink plenty of liquids especially water before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration.”

Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration, the release added. Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Environment Canada will update alerts as required.
