Hitting the pitch with the Sudbury Cricket Club

Six teams battle it out for cricket supremacy

The Sudbury Cricket Club hosted a cricket tournament on June 25 that drew six teams to Laurentian University.

The approximately 100 participants were mostly young Indian and Pakistani students, the club told Sudbury.com, who went head to head in 10 matches.

The event was put together by the organizing committee of Sudbury Cricket Club, including Tay Butt, Rana Raza, Amjad, Muhammad Safwan, Dr. Zaidi and Sahilpreet Singh.

“They worked hard to make the event possible,” the club said. “Scoring for matches was done on smartphone apps, which was watched live by many.”

The event also included a commentator, who “amused spectators with funny add-ons.”

“Overall a great sense of sport and competitiveness was witnessed.”

Organizers and players urge city officials to consider building a permanent area where local cricket players can play.
