The three people running to represent Ontario's New Democrats in the next provincial election will have a special guest at their nomination meeting Monday.

Party Leader Andrea Horwath announced Sunday she'll attend and speak at the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Cambrian College Student Centre. Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas will introduce Horwath.

Running to represent the party in the 2018 provincial election is labour activist Jamie West, former journalist Carol Mulligan and independent cinema managing director Beth Mairs.

The winner will run against Sudbury MPP and Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault. The Progressive Conservatives have yet to reveal details about their nomination.

Gélinas, who has represented Nickel Belt since 2007, was formally nominated to run again earlier this month.

Horwath will address delegates ahead of the speeches from all three candidates. Two rounds of balloting will follow, after which the winner will make an acceptance speech.

The next provincial election is expected to be in June of next year.
