Purchase a butterfly in memory of a loved one

On Aug. 19, hundreds of new butterflies will be released in Greater Sudbury as part of Maison McCulloch Hospice's annual fundraising event.

The 2018 Desjardins Live Butterfly Release is an opportunity to remember loved ones by releasing a butterfly in their memory or honour, regardless of whether they have a connection to the hospice or not, said Yolanda Thibeault, executive director, Sudbury Hospice Foundation.

The butterfly was chosen as it is symbolic of the beauty of nature, transformation and new beginnings, she said.

“The Desjardins culture is to be part of the community, and the hospice allows our community who have loved ones here to live their final days in dignity,” said Jean Bisson, director, Caisse Populaire Vermillion. “We appreciate what they do, and the hospice's values match so well with our own.”

The event has raised more about $100,000 over the past six years.

Butterflies can be purchased for $30 at all branches of Desjardins branches in Greater Sudbury. They can also be purchased at the hospice, Lougheed Funeral Homes , the Sudbury Cooperative Funeral Home, as well as online here at Sudbury.com.

All funds raised benefit the programs and services at the hospice.
