As people routinely do in the modern age, many Sudburians took to Facebook last night and this morning to express their opinions about Donald Trump's seemingly unlikely victory in the U.S. presidential race.
Taking key states like Ohio and Florida, Trump won the majority of electoral college votes (it appears he will win 306), but it appears he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton.
Now, the world waits to see how a Trump presidency will play out.
But in the meantime, this is how a smattering of Sudburians felt last night and this morning.

Oh boy, my children woke up this morning terrified that Trump is the President. They know why too much about that man. I just hope his horror doesn't trickle into Canada.

I hope you put the nastiness of the campaign trail behind you and focus on making America great as you promised. Posterity will be your ultimate judge, not the media or the current popular opinion. I hope you choose your aide de camps wisely and that your midas touch for business translates to the office of the President. The future of many depends on your success. This is a big job, but you asked for it. You did not need the white house for fame and fortune so I hope for everyone’s sake your intentions are patriotic and just.

it has been amazing how many people have commented negatively about Trump, 'he is this and he did this and what an A-Hole'....He is now The Pres, the Leader of the Free World #1 Power and Rep control the House and Congress. How did that happen? Don't be afraid of Change - the system is Broken and Yes, this will be one heck of a LARGE change in the Democratic and Political Machine. It will be very interesting to see the New USA develop

My 9 year old daughter upon hearing that Trump won: "So the guy that calls beauty pageant winners fat and doesn't want any women to have any power? Why? How?" Love that she cares and knows that American politics affects her too.

I woke up and the first thing I did was grab my phone to see what transpired. I'm shocked and horrified. How can the leader of the free world be a hateful bigot... I have many friends in the US and I truly worry for you. I know many of you don't trust Clinton and want to see real political change but this change is going to hurt

This is a sad, sad day. I just hope Trump is better than what he made himself out to be during this election. I'm proud to be Canadian, ashamed of our neighbors. What a terrible role model for all future children of the world.
