A Saturday night (April 6) fire at the Inco smelter No. 2 furnace baghouse resulted in three workers being injured and over $100,000 in damage.

According to Cory McPhee, Inco's spokesperson, the three employees were injured as they were attempting to attend to the fire at the baghouse. When they arrived on the scene "a small explosion occurred knocking a door off the room."

The three employees were treated at the scene for minor injuries and stayed on the job.

By the time City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services officials arrived, the fire had been put out; however, they were called back on standby to attend to a still-smoldering bin.

McPhee says they're not sure what cause the explosion and they're in the process of investigating the matter.
