Input wanted on renaming of arena

Anyone wishing to voice an opinion on a proposal to rename the Countryside Sports Complex to the Gerry McCrory Sports Complex is encouraged to submit their input to the city.

Anyone wishing to voice an opinion on a proposal to rename the Countryside Sports Complex to the Gerry McCrory Sports Complex is encouraged to submit their input to the city.

McCrory was the co-founder and long-term chairman of the Big Nickel Hockey Tournament. He served as president of the Sudbury Minor Hockey Association from 1979-1980 and 1988-1990. He co-founded the Big Nickel Hockey Tournament with Lionel Courtemanche in 1979, and took on the role of tournament chairman for 27 years.

McCrory served as council director for the Northern Ontario Hockey Association from 1990-1994 and 1997-2008. McCrory started a hockey school 37 years ago, which his son now operates out of Countryside Sports Complex.

He also served on Sudbury city council for one term starting in 1991, during which time he vocally supported the construction of Countryside Sports Complex.

Input is being accepted by the city for the next 30 days.
