That was the Northern Life front page headline May 8 and a quote from Jane Goodall, world renowned conservationist, and a newsmaker of 2002.

Goodall visited Sudbury as part of Science North?s Roots and Shoots Environment Conference. She has worked with chimpanzees in Africa for 40 years and has a worldwide environment and youth organization.

According to Franco Mariotti, conference organizer, Goodall?s presence was the main reason why the environmental conference was such as success.

Goodall praised Sudbury for its re-greening efforts. ?It?s proving that an environment that was totally destroyed can be cleaned up and become beautiful again.?

Science North produced a well-received IMAX film about her work which premiered last year. The film is being shown at IMAX theatres around the world.

The next Roots and Shoots conference is being organized by Science North for April 23 (English schools) and April 24 (French Schools). Phone Mariotti (English) and Julie Moskalyk (French) at 522-3701 for registration details.
