Lasalle Secondary School seems to be a theme in Kristina Rivard Gobbo's life.

She attended the high school for five years, meeting seven people she's still the “best of friends” with today.

Rivard Gobbo also had a number of teachers she was close to, especially one of her English teachers.

Then, when she was 23, her brother passed away. Even though it was four years after she'd graduated from Lasalle, her former English teacher showed up on her doorstep to console her, a gesture Rivard Gobbo said was “just amazing.”

Her high school teachers also inspired her to become a teacher herself, she said. Rivard Gobbo taught for five years at Lasalle, but left the school to become the vice-principal of Lockerby Composite School this past fall.

Although she's no longer teaching at Lasalle, Rivard Gobbo has taken on the task of helping to organize Lasalle's 50th anniversary reunion, which takes place from July 12-14.

The organizing committee is holding a public meeting about the reunion Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the lecture theatre at Lasalle.

The meeting is for those interested in volunteering, or who just want more information about the event.

The reunion is slated to kick off July 12 with a dinner at Cambrian College for past and present Lasalle staff members, followed by a meet and greet at Lasalle.

On July 13, all Lasalle alumni are invited to participate in coed flag football and basketball tournaments and listen to a battle of the bands.

On July 14, there will be a golf tournament at Cedar Green Golf Club, kids' entertainment, a barbecue, a paintball tournament and live entertainment.

Rivard Gobbo said she'd love to hear from anyone who wants more information, wishes to volunteer or has any old Lasalle photos or memorabilia they'd like displayed at the event.
