Last night’s rain caused flooding in Capreol

Dennie Street fully reopens, and residents should report basement flooding to 311 as soon as possible, says city

Dennie Street at Ormsby Avenue in Capreol is now open after being closed due to flooding from the storm on July 7, said the City of Greater Sudbury in a news release.

Water has receded and the road is fully open to traffic.

Capreol resident Emily Hennessey shared the video below on Facebook showing just how watery the street became.

Residents in Capreol, particularly in the Lakeshore Street area, may have experienced water or sewer backups in their basements. Roads crews are on site to attempt to mitigate the effects of the flooding.

“Please do not enter a flooded basement as this can cause life-threatening electrical shock, and pose health risks due to contaminated water,” said the city.

Contact your hydro utility to disconnect electrical power. If the floodwater threatens gas-fired equipment, such as your furnace or hot water heater, call to have the gas turned off.

Flood water can be heavily contaminated with sewage and other pollutants, posing a serious health hazard. Please stay away from flooded areas, said the city.

Residents should report basement flooding to 311 as soon as possible, and contact their insurance provider. If you must vacate your home due to flood damage and need immediate housing support, call 311 for assistance.
