University moving its classes online tomorrow 'as a precaution'

Laurentian University is holding a press conference at 3 p.m. after announcing Wednesday morning classes are cancelled this afternoon and they are moving online as of Thursday due to the spread of COVID-19.

The university said it is taking the measure “as a precaution.”

Late Tuesday night, Public Health Sudbury & Districts confirmed the area's first positive case of COVID-19.

The man in his 50s presented at the emergency department at Health Sciences North March 7. He had attended the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2020 conference in Toronto March 2 and 3. 

There are hundreds of people in Greater Sudbury who attended the PDAC who might be at risk of exposure to COVID-19, according to the health unit.
