Updated March 25 at 10:20 a.m.

One person was transported to Health Sciences North with injuries after a fire at an apartment on Lloyd Street Friday evening.

The Sudbury Professional Firefighters Association said on their Facebook page that just before 5 p.m. March 24, emergency crews were dispatched to a "room and contents fire" in an apartment unit on Lloyd Street.

Fire crews made their way to the fire through heavy smoke with a hoseline.

"The fire was located and quickly contained," said the post. "Other crews carried out searches, established a water supply from a hydrant, controlled utilities, laddered the building, and ventilated. Crews worked to ensure there were no hotspots or fire extension. Red Cross was called to accommodate the displaced tenants."

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The post did not provide any information about the severity of the victim's injuries.
