Local colleges get funding for apprenticeship training

The Ontario government is investing nearly $400,000 in apprenticeship training in Greater Sudbury to support training labs at local colleges and strengthen the province's economic advantage , Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said.

The Ontario government is investing nearly $400,000 in apprenticeship training in Greater Sudbury to support training labs at local colleges and strengthen the province's economic advantage , Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said.

Cambrian College will receive $358,985 for its welder, metal fabricator and industrial mechanic millwright programs while College Boréal will get $40,000 for its manufacturing/industrial mechanic millwrite program.

?A strong apprenticeship training system is important to economic growth and prosperity in our community,? Bartolucci said in a press release.

The funding builds upon further government plans to help meet Ontario's goal of increasing the the number of new apprentices to 26,000 annually by 2007 ? 2008. The province is investing $10 million this year to help apprentice-training labs in Ontario colleges to purchase up-to-date equipment and train more apprenticeships to standards set by industry.

Apprentice training will be a key feature of Ontario's new One-Stop Training and Employment System.
