Local man named president of Registered Nurses Association

A nurse from the Sudbury Regional Hospital is now president of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO). David McNeil, vice president of clinical programs and chief nursing officer, officially became president of the RNAO on April 16.

A nurse from the Sudbury Regional Hospital is now president of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO).

David McNeil, vice president of clinical programs and chief nursing officer, officially became president of the RNAO on April 16.

The RNAO is an association representing more than 29,000 registered nurses in Ontario.

"David's demonstrated leadership and collaborative approach will help further the RNAO's efforts in strengthening the nurse's voice and role in an evolving health care system," Carol Hartman, hospital board chair, said in a press release.

McNeil said he was honoured by the appointment.

"I am a nurse first and proud to lead the RNAO, which has lobbied for healthy public policy, and promoted excellence in nursing practice and nursting's constributions to the health care system since 1925," he said in the release.

"As a group, we have much to offer our health care system and the political will to affect positive change from within."
