Lockerby Composite School captured third place in the Ministry of Labour’s It’s your Job – Prevention Starts Here video contest.

Students from all across Ontario were invited to submit an original short video about the importance of working safely on the job.

Grade 10 students Alex MacDonald, Madison Kvaltin and Holly Gran used their creativity and technical skills to create an inspiring video, featuring children wearing personal protective equipment in workplace settings.

“This was an excellent opportunity for our students to put their learning into practice, while imparting an important message about safety in the workplace,” said Norm Blaseg, director of education for Rainbow District School Board.

“It’s a great reminder to our students to remain safe at work as they set off on their summer holidays. Safety is always first and foremost.”

The Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Education have been working together to incorporate workplace safety into the Ontario curriculum.

The students and the school received $500 for their efforts.
