Long Lake Public School is no more, but its legacy will live on in a new community park thanks to the generosity of Long Lake resident Lily Fielding.

The new park will be named Kivi Park in memory of Fielding’s parents and in honour of the Finnish immigrants who settled the Long Lake area of Greater Sudbury decades ago.

The former school property will be incorporated into the existing Long Lake Playground to give the community 12 acres of park space.

On April 13 from 6-8 p.m., everyone from the Long Lake community is invited to come out to a community meeting to envision what the new park will become. The meeting will be held at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, 235 Countryside Drive.
