On July 10, a small gathering was arranged at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home to celebrate the Lougheed Foundation's $55,000 donation to the Sudbury Manitoulin Children's Foundation (SMCF), in support of their Send-A-Kid-To-Camp Program.

SMCF is a registered charity that has been providing programming for underprivileged children of the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts since 1976.

For 34 years after helping found the children's organization, Gerry Lougheed Sr. was an active and supportive board member with SMCF.

Upon his retirement, his daughter-in-law Colette Lougheed took his chair on the board, where she continues to champion the success of SMCF programs.

The Lougheed Foundation was created in memory of Gerry Sr. and Marguerite Lougheed, Marguerite of whom was a passionate teacher who held causes that benefited children close to her heart, said a press release.
