A senior couple separated as a result of COVID-19 were able to have a face-to-face meeting of sorts Thursday with help from an anonymous business and their heavy machinery crane.
Last month, Elizabeth Centre long-term care home in Val Caron admitted a resident who has since been placed in mandatory isolation, making it impossible for her husband to visit her.
The two are incredibly close and had been suffering from the distance, said a Facebook post by Jarlette Health Services, inspiring a local company that has asked to remain anonymous, to give the couple the “window visit of a lifetime.”
After securing the husband into appropriate safety equipment, he was then lifted using a heavy machinery crane to his wife’s window where the two spoke by cellphone.
The husband told his wife he felt like a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, he later told the staff amid tears of joy, who were there for the meeting to cheer the romantic couple on.
“Despite the circumstances, kindness and compassion are coming together to make miracles happen,” the post went on to say.
“It truly takes a community to care for our seniors and we are so grateful for our community partners in Val Caron and across the province.”
