Residents in Coniston, Wahnapitae, Markstay and Sudbury -- including New Sudbury -- may notice low water pressure on Tuesday and Wednesday, the city announced Monday.

The low pressure is a result of a scheduled temporary shutdown of the water main feed from the Wanapitei Water Treatment Plant for upgrades to its treatment system.

“Residents will continue to draw municipal water from the Ellis Reservoir during scheduled shutdowns between 9 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, Jan. 5 and between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6,” the city said in a release.

To compensate for limited water supply, residents are asked to reduce water consumption whenever possible.

Residents who notice discoloured water once water pressure is restored are asked to run the cold water tap closest to their water meter for several minutes until water is clear of any sediment from water pipes.

In the event of prolonged discolouration or low water pressure, residents are asked to call 311.

“The City of Greater Sudbury thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during these essential capital improvements to the Wanapitei Water Treatment Plant,” the release said.
