The Sudbury location of the building store Lowe’s has named the Sudbury Women’s Centre (SWC) as its charity of choice for the annual Lowe’s Canada Heroes Campaign, and will be raising money for the Centre from Sept. 1-30.

Customers who visit Lowe’s during this time will be invited to make a donation of $2, $5, or $10 at the checkout, helping the SWC to support women facing difficult life circumstances.

“We are so thrilled to partner with Lowe’s, and be the recipient of their generosity,” said Giulia Carpenter, executive director of the SWC, in a release. “We hope that as our community works on their own home and outdoor projects, they’ll consider making a donation; and making a huge difference.”

At the end of the campaign, Lowe’s Canada will match 50 per cent of all donations collected, up to $2,000 per location. Proceeds of the month-long fundraising initiative will benefit the SWC and support its ability to offer free programs, services and referrals to women working to get from where they are, to where they want to be.

“We are strong supporters of the Sudbury Women’s Centre’s mission,” said Vicki McIntyre, Sudbury Lowe’s store manager, in a release. “We help our customers to renovate, repair or build their DIY projects, and now we’re helping the SWC to build a safe space for women in need. It’s a perfect fit.”

In the last fiscal year, the Sudbury Women’s Centre has assisted over 547 clients, (including over 260 new clients) with toiletries, feminine hygiene products, food & infant items. The Sudbury Women’s Centre has recently changed locations, occupying a larger space to address the growing public need for services.

The Sudbury Women’s Centre is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to providing information, referral and support services to women who have been impacted by violence and/or difficult life circumstances. To make a donation to the Sudbury Women’s Centre, you can click here.
