LU day-care centre celebrates 30 years

The Laurentian Child and Family Centre, located on the Laurentian University campus in Sudbury celebrated its 30th anniversary Wednesday. The Laurentian Child and Family Centre is a non-profit childcare centre, run by a volunteer board of directors.

The Laurentian Child and Family Centre is a non-profit childcare centre, run by a volunteer board of directors.

It currently provides service to 91 children, representing 65 families.

Since its opening in 1974, the centre has provided licensed child care to some 1,600 children, ranging in age from birth to 12 years, sharing in the joy of child development with about 1,000 families.

To celebrate this important milestone, the current board of directors has organized a year of exciting events. it first opened, the centre operated in a small building beside the B.F. Avery Physical Education Centre. In 1999, the present location beside the Alphonse Raymond Building wa sconstructed. New playground equipment was installed in the fall of 2003.

Kandis Stoughton is the director of the centre.
