Lynn's Place Fashion Boutique, the long-standing women's clothing store in Capreol, opened its doors nearly 35 years ago, on July 29, 1983.

Owner Lynn Mazzuca said she decided to open a business in the small, outlying community because she'd lived there all her life. It also fit well with her family situation at the time.

“I had four children,” she said. “It was easy because my family could come here. It wasn't too far away from home.”

Carrying clothing ranging from casual to formal in a full range of sizes, Mazzuca's customers don't just come from Capreol or even Greater Sudbury — people from all over Northern Ontario visit her store.

“It's important to me that a person leaves here looking good, not just to purchase something, because it's a reflection on me,” she said.

Mazzuca said some of her customers have actually become close friends. She sold them clothing when they were young mothers, and now they're coming back to purchase mother-of-the-bride dresses.

“I don't think I started off thinking I would be here for 35 years, but I really like what I'm doing, and I think that makes the difference,” she said. “I've been fortunate to meet so many nice people.”

Mazzuca certainly gives back to the community which has hosted her business for so many years. For years, she's organized Capreol Days, which is celebrating the community's 100th birthday this year.

She's also won a few awards for her business acumen, including the Bell Business Excellence Award in the Small Enterprise category in 2012 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from BPW Greater Sudbury in 2014.

To celebrate the store's anniversary, Mazzuca is holding what's she's calling a "fashion luncheon" at Our Lady of Peace Church in Capreol starting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5.

The event will include a fashion show, music and hot lunch. Lynn Spence, the fashion consultant from the Canadian talk show CityLine, will be there for the occasion.

Tickets to the event, which supports the local cancer equipment fundraising group Angels in Pink, cost $50 and are available at Lynn's Place, which is located at 16V Young St. in Capreol. Phone 705-858-1866.
