Three people were taken to hospital early Saturday morning following a one-vehicle crash near the intersection of Bancroft Drive and Lonsdale Avenue.

The 21-year-old driver is facing three charges related to impaired driving and a 19-year-old male passenger is in Health Sciences North with serious injuries, Greater Sudbury Police said in a news release.

The force's Uniform Division responded around 1:30 a.m.

“Investigation with the assistance of the Traffic Management Unit revealed that a 21-year-old male was driving down Bancroft Drive towards The Kingsway at a high rate of speed,” the release said.

“His passengers consisted of an 18-year-old female and a 19-year-old male. At some point just before Lonsdale Avenue, the vehicle left the road and struck a mailbox, which ultimately caused it to flip over and land on its roof, demolishing the vehicle.”

At hospital, the driver and the 18-year-old female were treated for their injuries and released.

The driver was charged with impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Over 80 Causing Bodily Harm, and Novice Driver Drive Motor Vehicle With a Blood Concentration Above Zero.
