Mayoral candidate Ron Leclair says that the salaries of senior staff at city hall are quite excessive.

"We, the taxpayers of Sudbury are paying senior staff at Tom Davies square extraordinary salaries that our mayor and council have hired," said Leclair in a news release.

"The Chief Administrative Officer, General Manager of Community Development, Chief Administrative Officer of Police Services, Chief of Police, General Manager of Growth and Infrastructure and the General Manager of Corporate Services, all make more money than the Premier of Ontario, to top it off their salaries are higher then the Mayors’ salary."

Sudbury must be one of the richest municipalities that I know of, with a population of roughly 161,000 people. We, the taxpayers of Sudbury are paying senior staff at Tom Davies square extraordinary salaries that our mayor and council have hired.

The Chief Administrative Officer, General Manager of Community Development, Chief Administrative Officer of Police Services, Chief of Police, General Manager of Growth and Infrastructure and the General Manager of Corporate Services, all make more money than the Premier of Ontario, to top it off their salaries are higher then the Mayors’ salary. Don’t get me wrong, but I thought the most important position of a municipality is the Mayor and Council, to represent the People of our beautiful city.

I have been trying to justify these salaries that we are paying for senior administrators, but I cannot wrap my head around it except for the fact that our taxes go up every year and so do their salaries. Does anyone find this interesting? I thought taxes go up because services go up, not salaries.

According to some of their work contracts they will receive up to a 3.5% increase in pay on their anniversary date of hire every year and be able to participate in a performance base system if one is available or implemented, does this sound reasonable to you, the voter? Some are also entitled to a Car Allowance and free Parking according to some of the contracts. I’m wondering how many other perks they are offered.

When will we as voters of this community realize that these salaries our quite excessive for our municipality. Do not forget, if we do not do something about these salaries now, in 4 years time we will have to pay a bigger severance package to these positions.

I will be posting the list of the Salaries and some Contracts for Senior Management on my Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/ThinkDifferentlySudbury/) if you would like to view.

Sincerely,
“The People’s Mayor”
Ron Leclair
