Laurentian University's School of Architecture has a new name: The McEwen School of Architecture at Laurentian University.

Calling him a figure legendary for "thinking big," Laurentian University president Dominic Giroux unveiled that the "mining visionary" hinted at in press releases earlier today was, in fact, Rob McEwen, founder of Goldcorp and CEO of McEwen Mining.

McEwen and his wife Cheryl were on hand today to donate $10 million to the School of Architecture at Laurentian.

"We're proud to join forces with Laurentian University and the school of Architecture," McEwen said this afternoon. "We have a passion to promote excellence in education and in health care."

McEwen said the goal of the McEwen School will be to "unleash the genius of the North, not just in Sudbury, but around the world."

Sudbury.com will have more coverage, including video and more details, a little later this afternoon.
