A gathering was held over the weekend to at the Canisius Hall at the University of Sudbury to honour Canada's missing and murdered aboriginal women.

"If we forget about these women, then nothing will be done. By doing a gathering such as this, people will listen," said Marjorie Beaudry, who organized the event.

The event was a cross-country day of action to honour the deaths and disappearances of aboriginal women from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside as well as across the country, in co-ordination with the national No More Silence network.

"Let's just not forget about our sisters that are gone, that no longer have a voice. Let me be that voice for them at least. To create awareness to the people, to the public in general," said Beaudry.

Beaudry said that cases involving the disappearance of aboriginal women often are not talked about, with little being done by authorities. She said that holding a memorial gathering will hopefully create awareness and help protect the lives of their grandchildren.
