Expanded cellular and mobile broadband service is now more reliable along Hwy 6 from Espanola to South Baymouth.

Announced Nov. 13, the expansion was made possible through a public-private investment by NetCentral Community Communications Network (NetCentral), the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and Rogers.

Seven new Rogers wireless cell sites are in service south of Espanola on Hwy 6, as well as at Little Current, Sheguiandah, Manitowaning, South Baymouth, Mindemoya and on Hwy 540 northwest of M’Chigeeng.

The sites provide cellular and high speed Internet services via Rogers High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) Plus (+) technology.

NetCentral is the not-for-profit, community-based Information and Communications Technology (ICT) organization serving the Greater Sudbury, Manitoulin Island, Sudbury East, West Nipissing, Elliot Lake, Chapleau and Parry Sound regions.
