More than 1,200 students to attend St-Jean Baptiste concert

Greater Sudbury Francophone students from 20 area schools will gather at Bell Park’s Grace Hartman Amphitheatre for a St-Jean Baptiste concert on June 1

A crowd of more than 1,200 students will gather at Bell Park’s Grace Hartman Amphitheatre for a St-Jean Baptiste concert on June 1.

The concert, which begins at 10:30 a.m., will see Grades 4-8 students from 20 Greater Sudbury, Sudbury East and Espanola schools take in a performance by Francophone artist LeFLOFRANCO with DJ Skorpyon.

The concert is being presented jointly by the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord as part of the 25th anniversary of St-Jean Sudbury, and kicks off a number of St-Jean Baptiste activities to take place in June.

“With the presentation of this concert, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord want to expose their students from French-language Catholic and public schools to a Francophone cultural experience and to reinforce their links with Francophone community partners,” according to a media release by the organization.

LeFLOFRANCO is billed as an “Ottawa-based hip-hop sensation,” who, “brings to the table a sound high in energy mixed with heartfelt lyrical content. Striving to push Hip-Hop’s sound towards new heights, he refers to his unique sound as multicolored urban pop.”

The first part of the show will feature Rodney Meilleur from Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon, Véronique Champoux from Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord, accompanied by DJ Alex Reed, a graduate from Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury).
