Municipal election: Dates set for all-candidate events

Business community, seniors’ group and environmental organization all hosting town hall events

Municipal election day is Oct. 22, but advance polls open Oct. 15.

The first event is the Good Green Town Hall for mayoral candidates hosted jointly by several environmental groups in the community. It’s being help Sept. 26 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Place, 111 Larch Street, downtown.

This event is hosted by Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, reThink Green, Citizens Climate Lobby Canada, Climate Reality, and Social Planning Council of Sudbury. Candidates will be asked to answer questions from the moderator and from the general public.

Then on Oct. 3, the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce is hosting its mayoral all-candidates event at Collège Boréal from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce will once again be holding a forum for this year's mayoral candidates in the municipal election so they can express their platforms and positions, specifically on issues related to the business community and how to improve the economic well-being of Greater Sudbury. 

“Audience members are encouraged to submit written questions at or before the event; questions will be asked by a panel of chamber representatives.”

And then on Oct. 11, the ParkSide Older Adult Centre (located in the YMCA on Durham Street downtown) plans to host its all-candidates event on issues raised by the members of CARP at its annual meeting. A time has not been provided as of yet.

“Each candidate will be provided before the event with the results of a survey taken at our CARP last Annual General Meeting and each candidate given the opportunity (5 minutes) to respond.”
