Starting Tuesday, Dec. 2, the Sudbury & District Health Unit is putting residents of Nairn Centre under a boil water advisory.

The townÂ?s water supply will be shutdown for scheduled work on the water lines and the quality of the water canÂ?t be guaranteed.

A boil water advisory means people who take their water from the municipal system should not drink the water, use it to brush their teeth, or use it to wash foods such as fruits and vegetables that will be eaten before cooking.

Drinking water should be brought to a roiling boil and boiled for one full minute. Water used for cooking should also be brought to a full boil.

The health unit will lift the advisory once bacteriological testing of the water indicates itÂ?s safe.
