Children and youth who are obese or overweight can face additional struggles at school and in the community. They may find it more difficult to take part in physical activities, including unstructured play, school gym class, dance lessons, and organized sports. Teasing can lead to self-esteem issues that can hinder academic, emotional and social well-being.

NEO Kids at Health Sciences North wants to inform all teachers, schools, sports and leisure clubs and parents that there is a program available to help.

The BALANCE program provides support to children and teens who are living with excess weight or obesity.

BALANCE stands for Bringing Active Living and Nutrition into your Childhood Everyday.

The BALANCE team at NEO Kids supports families in making healthy lifestyle choices for their children through interactive nutrition education, fun physical activity, emotional support and health education and monitoring in a positive group environment

The BALANCE team includes a Dietitian, an Exercise Specialist, a Social Worker, a Nurse Practitioner and a consulting Pediatrician.

No physician referral to the BALANCE program is necessary. Families can enrol by simply contacting the BALANCE program.

Parents, teachers, schools and leisure clubs seeking more information about the BALANCE program can contact 705-523-7100 ext. 3545 or email [email protected].

NEO Kids is HSN’s centre for pediatric outpatient care and is located at the Ramsey Lake Health Centre.
