New Sudbury Days will be back at full capacity for the annual community celebration Aug. 26-27.
Organizers said the event is the largest collaborative effort yet with events spread across four New Sudbury wards, namely Ward 5, Ward 8, Ward 11 and Ward 12.
“The event, organized by the New Sudbury Days Committee, is completely volunteer driven and aims to celebrate the unique spirit and diverse community that make up New Sudbury,” organizers said in a news release.
New Sudbury Days kicks off with a food drive in support of the Sudbury Food Bank, which will aim to fill their cargo truck at Metro (900 Lasalle Blvd) on Aug. 23 and Giant Tiger (2210 Lasalle Blvd) on Aug. 24.
Both days the Food Drive will run from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Donations can also be made at all events throughout the weekend.
The official opening of the two-day event will be held Aug. 26 at Ridgecrest Park (1437 Roy St.) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with opening remarks from dignitaries and a pancake breakfast (while supplies last).
Highlights of this year's New Sudbury Days include:
- Cultural and Community Showcases: Live performances, a makers’ market, sport demonstrations (including a visit from a guest with the SWSE), and interactive displays that showcase the talents and traditions of the community's residents.
- Family Friendly Activities: Face painting, bouncy castles, demonstrations from Science North and interactive games. A fireworks display will be held Aug. 26 at Westmont Park, starting at approximately 8:30 p.m.
- Explore your neighbourhood: community bike ride led by Bike Sudbury will explore neighbourhood trails and provide a guided experience for those familiar or new to the landscape.
