As reported earlier today, power has been restored to all areas of New Sudbury damaged by Monday’s punishing storm.

That said, there are still some Greater Sudbury Utilities customers who do not have electricity in their homes yet.

If you are one of those people who is still without power, GSU wants you to call immediately at 705-675-7536 “so we can determine the issue and get them back in service as soon as possible,” the utility said in a news release today.

In some cases, customers are waiting for ESA inspections or for electricians to do repair work, but the utility believes in other cases, people don’t realize the service mast connecting their home to the power grid is damaged or that the line to their home is not connected.

“Call us ASAP and let us know!”

Normally, brush would need to be cut and bundled if a homeowner wanted to leave debris at the curb. However, with so much debris to clean up, the city is waiving the bundling requirement for residents clearing storm debris.

Simply cut branches and limbs to four or five feet in length and pile by the curb.

It may take city crews some time to pick up, given the sheer amount, but workers will be going street to street, and continuing to circulate through the neighbourhoods in the coming days until debris has been cleared.

Also, If you have spoiled food to dispose of, the city is asking that you not put it at the curb. Leaving spoiled food at the curb for extended periods of time in this heat will attract bears and other wildlife.

If you have spoiled food to dispose off or brush that needs to be picked up, phone the city at 3-1-1 to make arrangements with city staff.
