UPDATED: The Norovirus outbreak at the Sudbury Regional Hospital has been declared over. Visitor restrictions for all areas have been lifted, stated a hospital news release.

Just one patient at Sudbury Regional Hospital was still suffering the effects of Norovirus on Monday, prompting the outbreak committee to soften visitor restrictions.

Norovirus, which hits people suddenly and causes severe diarrhea and vomiting, broke out on April 3.

“The outbreak is certainly resolving although we haven’t declared it over,”  said spokeswoman Loretta Bostrom.

The hospital is welcoming visitors to all but three areas: the two floors where the virus broke out – the fourth floor of St. Joseph’s Health Centre and the fourth floor of the Laurentian site – and the in-patient section of the emergency ward at St. Joseph’s.

The outbreak committee will reassess the situation on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, all visitors are reminded to wash their hands at the stations provided.
