Northern Water Sports Centre receives $30K from Build North Construction

Money to be used to finish driveway, signage and HVAC system

The Northern Water Sports Centre may be in its second season, but there are still a few projects that need to be completed. Build North Construction made a $30,000 donation Sept. 20 to help make that happen.

Build North was the general contractor of the Northern Water Sports Centre, a year-round facility that houses the Sudbury Canoe Club, the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival and the Sudbury Rowing Club.

"I'm very proud that we're able to say 'we built this building'," Build North Construction vice-president Tracy Nutt said.

"It's a lovely little jewel for the city."

Northern Water Sports Centre volunteer chair Ron Mulholland said it has been an eventful summer.

Not only has the canoe club seen a 30 per cent increase in membership since the facility opened in May 2016, but the Northern Water Sports Centre hosted the Canadian National Canoe Marathon and the National Kayak Water Polo Championships

"Now in its second season, we are ironing out the issues associated with increased membership and the new facility," Mulholland said.

"We expect great things in the future and this donation will be a big help."

The money will go towards finishing the driveway, signage and additions to the building's HVAC system.
