Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 4274 recently ratified a new collective agreement.

The agreement is in effect retroactively from Sept. 1, 2022, and ends Aug. 31, 2026.

At CSC Nouvelon, CUPE represents janitorial and maintenance staff.

“This agreement reflects the desire of both parties to work together and to offer students a safe and healthy environment,” said Suzanne Salituri, chair of CSC Nouvelon.

“With this agreement, we will be able to join forces to continue offering high-quality services within our schools and support the development and success of each student.”

“Many people invested a great deal of effort during the negotiation of this agreement, and we truly appreciate their contribution,” said Paul Henry, director of education with CSC Nouvelon.

“Their efforts will make it possible for us to offer a stimulating work environment to all members of our school community.”

Last fall, as part of a labour dispute with the province, CUPE education workers in Ontario were involved in walkouts, including here in Greater Sudbury

The province had passed legislation to impose a contract on the 55,000 education workers and ban them from striking, but this has since been rescinded.

A collective agreement was ratified at the provincial level in December.

The Rainbow District School Board also announced in January that a local agreement had been reached with CUPE workers.
