Students from the Huntington University Gerontology Society (HUGS) have collected 70 gifts for long-term care residents in Greater Sudbury.

The packages, donated as part of Huntington University’s third annual Christmas Giving Tree campaign, were recently distributed to three local long-term care facilities.

On Christmas Day, residents living at Finlandia Village, Pioneer Manor and Extendicare York, will be presented with their gifts.

“This campaign is a prime example of how lessons move beyond the classroom to have a greater impact in the community at large,” said Lorraine Mercer, chair of the Huntington University gerontology department.

“I commend the students from HUGS for their ongoing commitment to this community project.”

“I’d like to thank our campus community and the local Greater Sudbury residents who continue to support this campaign and ensure older adults on our list receive a gift this holiday season,” said Bethany Robinson, HUGS president.

“In our third year, the Christmas Giving Tree is now a fond tradition at Huntington University, and as a group of gerontology students it brings us great joy to know we’re doing something positive for older adults in Greater Sudbury.”
