Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has reported one new case of COVID-19 in the local jurisdiction for Wednesday August 11. The health unit is also reporting there are still 19 active cases being monitored.

Also, since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases just over 17 months ago, there have been 2206 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 2187 of those cases are now resolved.

There are also now 1013 cases that are "confirmed or presumed to be" for variants of concern. This is an increase of three new cases over Tuesday's online report.

The details were outlined on the PHSD website

The single new case was reported to have occurred in Greater Sudbury.

With respect to the possible causes of recent cases, PHSD reported there was one case related to close contact of a confirmed case, four cases related to an outbreak and four cases deleted for under investigation.

PHSD also reported general demographics each day about the people who are becoming infected.

Epidemiological data showed that the majority of local cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 721 total cases (no increase).

The next highest group number was 553 cases for the 40 to 59 age group (no increase).

The next highest number was 531 cases for the 19 and under age group (one decrease).

Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group amounted to 303 cases total (no increase).

People aged 80 and over are currently the lowest category with 95 cases (no increase).

Also, one new case was categorized as "not specified." There are now two cases in that category.

The numbers above might not correspond to other numbers being reported because the health unit does report fresh numbers every day.

With respect to COVID-19 testing,  272,328  tests have been performed in the PHSD region; an increase of 477 since the last testing results on Tuesday. New vaccination data was not included on the daily summary page on Wednesday.

The health unit webpage  has also acknowledged there is a current active COVID-19 current outbreak on Manitoulin Island.

That outbreak was declared on Wednesday August 4 at the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island, by members of the local pandemic crisis team, who are members of the health centre. That outbreak is still regarded as active by the local health centre on the Island.

Also, at Sudbury's Health Sciences North, as of August 11 there are two patients with confirmed COVID-19 at the hospital, said the HSN website. One of those patients is in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition to this there are eight admitted patients "being tested" for COVID-19. HSN said none of those eight patients being tested has been admitted to the ICU at this time.

On the provincial COVID-19 register today, the Ontario government daily website reported 321 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported two new deaths had occurred in the past 24 hours.
