Ontario confirms 1,575 new COVID cases today

There are 110 known active cases in Northern Ontario

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,575 new cases of COVID-19 today, the sixth daily record noted in November so far and the third day in a row that the province has set a new daily record. 

The province has also reported 18 deaths including two people between 60 and 79 years old and 16 people over the age of 80 years old. 

Since yesterday's report, 69 people have been hospitalized with the coronavirus and 11 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units. 

Of the 1,575 new cases confirmed, 448 are from Peel and 472 are from Toronto. York Region reported 155 of today's cases and Ottawa reported 91. 

More than 1,000 of today's cases are individuals between 20 and 59 years old.

The province has reported 103 new school-related cases, including 51 student cases, 14 staff cases, and 38 unidentified cases. There have been 3,166 school-related cases reported to date and 1,046 of those have been reported in the last 14 days. In Ontario 653 schools currently have one or more reported COVID cases. 

There are 11,271 lab-confirmed, active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. Of those 431 people are hospitalized with the virus including 98 COVID patients in intensive care units and 62 COVID patients on ventilators. 

To date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 89,784 cases of COVID-19 and has reported 75,220 recoveries (83.8 per cent) and 3,293 deaths (3.7 per cent).

Since yesterday's update, the province has confirmed 39,559 COVID tests processed with 41,977 tests still awaiting processing. Ontario labs have now processed 5.5 million COVID tests. As of data collected yesterday, approximately 5.1 per cent of people tested for the coronavirus test positive. The province's goal for the per cent positivity rate is to keep it below three per cent. 

The average incidence rate for COVID-19 in the province of Ontario is 604 cases per 100,000 people. Toronto and Peel Region are the only health units in the province with case incidence rates over 1,000 cases per 100,000 people. Toronto's rate is 1,011 cases per 100,000 people and Peel's rate is 1,098 cases per 100,000 people. 

In Northern Ontario, all of the health units are currently classified as green under the province’s new regional restrictions. It means the areas are permitted the broadest allowance of Stage 3 activities.

Since yesterday, 14 cases have been reported by health units across the north. There are 110 known active cases.

The breakdown of Public Health Ontario data for the rate of cases for Northern Ontario health units is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 58 cases, rate of 50.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 57 cases. There are 11 known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 10.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 52 cases, rate of 40.1 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 54 cases. There are five known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 11.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 102, rate of 122.2 per 100,000 people. There are four known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 11.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 190 cases, rate of 95.5 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 192 cases. There are 62 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 12.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 17 cases, rate of 52 per 100,000 people. There are no known active cases. The last case was reported Oct. 5.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 83 cases, rate of 94.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has also reported two probable cases. There are five known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 11.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 141 cases, rate of 94 per 100,000 people. There are 23 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 11.

The Ontario rate of infection is 604.
