Ontario COVID-19 cases jump 426 in one day, the largest increase yet

The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Ontario jumped 426 to 2,392 Wednesday, April 1, the highest single-day increase yet.

The number of Ontarians with the virus who have died now stands at 37, up four from yesterday. 

There are 698 cases listed as being “resolved” (meaning they have recovered). 

The count of Ontarians who have been tested for the virus stands at 57,874, and 3,135 people are under investigation for COVID-19.

Locally, Public Health Sudbury and Districts reports 13 confirmed positive cases, up from 11 yesterday.

That includes a case confirmed just today. The woman in her fifties was tested March 29, and is the first case in the area that has required hospitalization. She is being cared for at Health Sciences North.

There are currently 204 people in this area under investigation for COVID-19, 485 who have tested negative, and four people whose sickness is considered “resolved.” The local health unit has done 701 tests to date.

In Northern Ontario, there are now 49 COVID-19 cases. That includes two new cases here in Sudbury, six in the Timmins area and one in Elliot Lake.

In Canada as a whole, there are 9,005 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 12 probable cases and 105 deaths.
