CNW - The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario has taken a giant step in solving Ontario's doctor shortage by allowing licensed physicians from other provinces and the United States to practise in Ontario without having to do further training or taking exams here. However, U.S. doctors must have completed post-graduate training.

The change takes effect on Dec. 1.

"From our travels throughout North America, we know Ontario is a preferred destination for numerous practice-ready physicians," said Brad Sinclair, executive director of HealthForceOntario Marketing and Recruitment Agency.

The goal of HealthForceOntario, a government agency, is to ensure the province has the right number and mix of health care providers when and where they're needed.
